Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services are provided on an outpatient basis for patients recovering from such illnesses as heart attacks, cardiac surgery, and lung diseases. This therapy uses exercise equipment such as treadmills, rowing and stepping equipment, and recumbent bicycles to provide physical therapy for the patient. Each patient is individually monitored at all times for heart and breathing rates, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure. Exercise is combined with teaching about other lifestyle changes that can help patients get well faster. Education includes nutrition and stress management, as well as information about medications. More information about the rehab program, which requires a doctor's referral, may be obtained by calling 256-739-3500 ext. 1147.

Sleep Disorders Center

Cardiopulmonary Care also provides a Sleep Disorders Center to evaluate and treat all types of sleep disorders including sleep apnea, insomnia, and narcolepsy. The sleep study room is furnished to resemble a bedroom at home. Health professionals monitor activity from a nearby control room. Sleep studies are conducted overnight under the direction of a specially trained technician, who monitors sleep and breathing patterns, heart activity, and body movement.
