Children's Services
Our team has the experience, understanding, and technological backup to meet the needs of your sick or injured child, from babies to teens. Many highly regarded pediatricians and family physicians use our pediatric services. Our goal is to work with you and your child's physician to return your child to health. We offer:
Private and semi-private rooms. Two private rooms have been set-up and decorated entirely for children with a child-like motif, TV/VCR, and Sony Playstation to make your child's visit as comfortable as possible.
Sleep chairs to make it comfortable for you to stay with your child.
Surgical Safari
For those children who may be experiencing a surgical procedure, Woodland also offers Surgical Safari. Come experience the wilds of the Serengeti where lions and wild beasts lurk around every corner...well, almost.
Surgical Safari is a free service of Woodland Medical Center for children of all ages. This program was created because we recognize that the surgical experience can be intimidating and overwhelming for children, as well as their parents. We hope that providing this exciting and fun-filled tour will ease some of your concerns and your child's anxieties about surgery. The tour is on most Sunday afternoons from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It includes a special greeting from a Registered Nurse certified in pediatrics, as well as information about the surgical process.
Your child’s Surgical Safari adventure will consist of a guided tour of the Outpatient area and Operating Rooms. With monkeys and lions greeting you around each corner, you will follow Herman Gorilla through an imaginary surgery. Your safari adventures will include:
• Walk through of the registration process
• Gowning up for the kids and parents for tour of the OR
• Children's ride through the OR in our safari jeep
• Watching Herman take a nap for surgery
• Reading a book about the process of surgery from a child's perspective
• A Surgical Safari T-shirt for your child
• An instant photo taken in the jeep
• A tour of the pediatric rooms will be given to those children and parents requiring overnight stay.
We encourage you to write down a list of questions you might have and bring them with you the day of the tour.
To register for the Surgical Safari call Woodland's Central Scheduling Office at (256) 736-1400 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. We hope you come and join us for this informative and fun experience for all!
