ER+ Emergency Services
You do not plan to visit the emergency department. It just happens, and usually when you least expect it. At Woodland Medical Center, we practice a philosophy of emergency care called ER+, which helps further our goal that you will receive quality medical care as quickly and professionally as possible.
At Woodland Medical Center, we know that emergencies do not happen on schedule. They can happen 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That's why we staff our ER on the same schedule - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
At first glance, our emergency room looks like many others with equipment, treatment rooms, and emergency radios. But if you look closer, you'll find that our ER is equipped to respond immediately and comprehensively to your needs ranging from minor cuts and bruises to life-threatening medical incidents. We have advanced medical technology such as monitoring equipment and computers. A radiology room dedicated to ER patients eliminates the need for transport to other areas of the hospital for testing. Various rooms are specially equipped for cardiac care, trauma, OBGYN care, pediatrics, and eye emergencies. Other rooms are equipped for general medical, orthopedic, and psychiatric emergencies.
In our ER, you'll find a team of caring medical professionals dedicated to giving you the best possible treatment with skill and sensitivity. All of our physicians and nurses are highly trained to take care of whatever emergencies life might bring.
What makes our Emergency Department different is our ER Plus care. ER Plus includes a Pro-MEDTM System that tracks your care from arrival to dismissal. You see a doctor sooner, as well as receiving take-home instructions when you leave.
We understand that when you have an emergency, no matter how big or small, you want attention fast. At Woodland, we will give you the quickest possible emergency care.
As soon as you arrive at Woodland, you will be taken to an exam room for assessment.
Assessment: Explain How You Feel
A nurse will check your vital signs and ask about your symptoms. You'll be asked for other information such as your name, address, medical history, medications you're taking, and any drug allergies.
A doctor will see patients with the most serious injuries or illnesses first. In the exam room, the physician will evaluate your condition and may order diagnostic tests. Nurses will monitor your vital signs as the doctor assesses your condition.
The emergency physician will discuss diagnosis and treatment options with you, your family, and your private physician. If you are seriously injured or ill, you may be admitted to the hospital. The ER doctor also may refer you to your regular physician or another specialist for follow-up care.
Discharge: Ask Questions
We encourage you to ask questions and review your take-home instructions. We'll ask you to provide insurance information to us before you leave the hospital. We file insurance claims and handle the paperwork. In case you do not have insurance, we expect payment for all services before you leave the hospital.
You may contact the Emergency Department at (256) 739-4357.
The ER+ Goal
The ER+ goal is for you to have access 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, to qualified physicians who take the time to listen to what you have to say. You will be greeted warmly by nurses who are truly compassionate, and by a registration staff that understands that people come before paperwork.
Our team of trained physicians, nurses and technicians are able to provide fast, quality care. They will listen to you, examine you carefully and prescribe a treatment plan that you will understand and believe in.
At our emergency department, ER+ represents a commitment to providing quality service by meeting the needs of our patients and their families with courtesy and respect. Your emergency experience at ER+ should be one of care, concern and attention to your emotional and physical needs. It is our goal not only to meet our patients’ needs, but also to exceed the expectations of the people in the community we serve.
